The number of problems related to substance abuse just got larger. A recent study found that drug and alcohol addictions have associated risks of triggering anxiety disorders. The research found that about 20 percent of addicts also suffer from anxieties.
Anxiety symptoms can include:
• Loss of concentration and memory
• Sleeplessness or insomnia
• Negative thoughts
• Nervousness or panic stricken conditions
It is also not uncommon for someone with an anxiety disorder to also suffer from depression or vice versa. Nearly one-half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
Luckily, these disorders are both treatable, separately and together. Our experienced professional staff understands the link between anxiety, depression and addiction and can help you to fight against drug dependency and the risk of developing an anxiety disorder.
Counseling sessions and prescription medications can help addicts break the chains of depression and anxiety and lead a normal, healthy life. During the treatment of anxiety disorders, substance dependency is also reduced.
The Challenges Addiction Treatment and Relapse Prevention Center staff work to identify the root cause of the addiction and anxiety and teach clients effective forms of anxiety treatment.
