Co-Occurring Disorders

Drug addiction and anxietyThe number of problems related to substance abuse just got larger. A recent study found that drug and alcohol addictions have associated risks of triggering anxiety disorders. The research found that about 20 percent of addicts also suffer from anxieties.

Anxiety symptoms can include:

• Loss of concentration and memory

• Sleeplessness or insomnia

• Negative thoughts

• Nervousness or panic stricken conditions

It is also not uncommon for someone with an anxiety disorder to also suffer from depression or vice versa. Nearly one-half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

Luckily, these disorders are both treatable, separately and together. Our experienced professional staff understands the link between anxiety, depression and addiction and can help you to fight against drug dependency and the risk of developing an anxiety disorder.

Counseling sessions and prescription medications can help addicts break the chains of depression and anxiety and lead a normal, healthy life. During the treatment of anxiety disorders, substance dependency is also reduced.

The Challenges Addiction Treatment and Relapse Prevention Center staff work to identify the root cause of the addiction and anxiety and teach clients effective forms of anxiety treatment.

Our trained staff addresses the severity of each client’s mental health and substance disorders including affective disorders, personality traits, chronic pain and trauma-related issues. Challenges clients receive medication, education and learn how brain chemistry plays a major role in their recovery as well as their goal of life-long sobriety.

The cognitive behavioral therapies and psychotherapy sessions help the addicts understand the underlying cause behind their addiction and anxiety. Clients can also participate in support group therapy, which can be extremely beneficial in teaching addicts how to manage their anxiety triggers.

One of the first challenges in getting help for yourself or a loved one is knowing where to start. We can help with a free assessment and someone to talk with right now.
